Applications for ISO-DRAIN membranes and geocomposites
ISO-DRAIN materials are manufactured by Interplast Kunststoffe GmbH (Germany) and include over forty different types of membranes, which can be used in almost all areas of modern construction, including new construction, renovation and reconstruction. Basic applications for ISO-DRAIN membranes and geocomposites:
CONCRETE BED REPLACEMENT
The use of ISO-DRAIN profiled membranes, as a substitute for concrete preparation, is by far the most sensible solution. In this case, just like the concrete bed, the ISO-DRAIN profiled membrane is a structural layer and does not affect the load-bearing capacity of the overlying load-bearing (reinforced) foundation slab and is therefore not included in the calculation of the load-bearing capacity of the slab. At the same time, the application of these profiled membranes creates optimal curing conditions for the concrete slab (the cement slurry does not go into the foundation soil) and protects the slab against negative ground conditions: alkaline and saline groundwater aggression, penetration of capillary water.
WATERPROOFING PROTECTION
ISO-DRAIN profiled membranes are used in the construction of foundation waterproofing together with bonding, coating or cladding membranes on a bituminous basis. The material is placed with the protrusions against the wall and protects the base layer of the bitumen waterproofing against damage from backfill ground, as well as maintaining its integrity in the frost-affected zone. As a separating barrier between the ground and the bituminous waterproofing, the ISO-DRAIN profiled membrane protects the integrity of the latter throughout the entire foundation depth. Laying the profiled membrane with the protrusions against the wall creates an additional air layer, which has a favourable effect on the microclimate of the basement room.
DRAINAGE SYSTEMS ARRANGEMENT
A complete drainage system requires a material that will combine the two functions of protecting the main waterproofing layer and creating a drainage channel. These requirements are met by ISO-DRAIN drainage geocomposites. Over the protrusions these materials are equipped with a Typar geotextile fabric filter which is welded to membranes by method of thermal bonding, thus forming an air gap with high permeability.
The Typar geotextile used with the profiled membrane, due to its unique structure, cannot be deformed by ground pressure and will not silt. Geocomposite ISO DRAIN material is placed with a filter layer (geotextile) against the ground/ foundation soil. Water coming from the ground is filtered by profiled membrane and diverted away from the building via a drainage pipe and into a drainage well, preventing it from accumulating dangerously close to the foundation.
GREEN AND OPERABLE ROOFS
ISO-DRAIN membranes are also used for the purpose of protecting the basic waterproofing layer, draining away excess moisture and partially storing it to nourish the plant roots. The material, on the flat side, was perforated. The membrane is laid with the protrusions downwards on top of the waterproofing layer. When watering or precipitation occurs, excess water escapes through the perforations into the drainage gap and further into the drainage system. A certain part of water remains in the membrane protrusions, which allows for the accumulation of moisture in the roof system, so essential for the feeding the plant roots. The ISO-DRAIN drainage geocomposites are also used in the system, depending on the construction of the "pie".
INTERIOR DECORATION
Sanitizing damp walls The result of moisture inside basements is fungus, mould, unacceptably high levels of humidity in the room and it becomes unfit for use. Solving this problem by removing the source of moisture is very expensive and difficult, and often impossible due to the construction of the foundation. The simplest and most affordable solution to achieve maximum efficiency in this situation is to use a separating layer based on ISO-DRAIN membranes, which has been developed specifically for this purpose. An air gap is created by laying it with the protrusions placed against the wall. The use of a special skirting board and a finishing profile with openings at the top and bottom of the wall will ensure unobstructed air circulation.
Noise insulation. Excessive noise levels in residential premises lead to serious health problems for their occupants. In buildings with reinforced concrete ceilings, to isolate impact noise, a 'floating' floor structure is used, at the base of which ISO-DRAIN sound insulation material is used.
Flooring. To avoid cracks in the tiled flooring, there are several problems to be solved regarding the subbase arrangement. This prevents deformation of the subbase in relation to the tiles and relieves internal stresses, protects against moisture, compensates for temperature differences in underfloor heating systems, or in outdoor areas (balconies, terraces) The solution involves the appearance and use of an additional layer in the subbase construction that fulfils the above functions. Modern research by INTERPLAST GmbH engineers has enabled the development of a unique material which alone can solve all possible problems associated with crack formation.
ROAD CONSTRUCTION
Certain models of ISO-DRAIN drainage geocomposites are used in road construction as partial or complete replacements for drainage and frost protection layers. The special and unique surface shape of the material ensures that the geocomposite bonds with the ground and creates a drainage gap at the same time. This provides the reserve volume of voids needed to drain large quantities of water quickly. In the event of freezing of the drainage outlets, the additional volume of voids allows water to accumulate temporarily (until the drainage system thaws), preventing its penetration into the structural working layers.
We are constantly developing and responding to all the changes and demands of the construction market. For this reason, the range of ISO-DRAIN-branded materials is constantly being expanded and improved through the introduction of new products, with higher performance and covering new areas of application.
